COURSE DESCRIPTION: The suites of methods used to estimate abundance, density, population growth rate, and numerous other parameters have been among the most important tools in the toolbox of managers and ecologists for decades.  Advances in sampling methods, such as noninvasive genetic sampling and remote cameras, can yield rich datasets that allow us to develop testable hypotheses in addition to estimating traditional demographic parameters and vital rates. 

This course will introduce students to the broad range of mark-recapture tools, including MARK, DENSITY, and PRESENCE, as well as several R packages dedicated to multi-state and spatially-explicit capture-recapture modeling.

We will work with real-world datasets and provide assistance with your data.  Our instructors emphasize developing hypothesis-driven research questions, with particular attention to study design.
